Welcome to the tech support area for the SOUNDaround.
If you’re having some troubles getting your SOUNDaround going, drop us an email at support@xitel.com. But before you do, here's some info that might help you out right now:
Problem: Everything sounds exactly the same through my TV
Solution: If you have plugged in your SOUNDaround and cannot hear any difference from your TV, you will need to do the following.
Firstly – plug a set of headphones directly into your SOUNDaround and place them on your ears. You should be able to cycle through the modes and hear a distinct difference in audio processing. This is what you should hear when your SOUNDaround is working through your TV speakers. When you have the headphones plugged in, there should be no audio coming from your TV speakers. If you can still hear audio coming from your TV speakers, it means that your TV is not actually using the audio stream from the SOUNDaround but somewhere else. Unplug your headphones and check these connections.
Set-top boxes (such as from Comcast, etc) use a composite connection between your TV and the Comcast box. When using a set-top box with the SOUNDaround, you need to make sure that the composite digital cable is unplugged and that only the red/white/yellow outputs on your set-top box are used to connect to the SOUNDaround and TV. If the composite digital cable remains connected between your TV and set-top box, the TV will only accept audio from this source and not that coming in from the SOUNDaround.
To hook up your set-top box:
- connect the red / white audio outputs from your set-top box into the red / white audio inputs on your SOUNDaround.
- connect the red / white audio outputs on the SOUNDaround into the red / white audio inputs on your TV.
- connect the yellow video output on your set-top box to the yellow video input on your TV.
- because you are now sending video and audio to your TV through a different set of inputs, you will need to find the channel that the signal is coming in on. This will usually be through the video or aux channel.
You should now be able to cycle through the SOUNDaround’s processing mode and hear a distinct difference through your TV speakers. Try the different speaker size settings on the back of the SOUNDaround to choose the one that sounds best for your TV.
